Busy on Goodreads

*wipes forehead* PHEW!

I've been on Goodreads for ages trying to list all the books I've read, its hard work I tell you.

There are just so many, I'm at 310 at the moment and there is still tons to go!

Ah well its great entertainment what with the quizzes and book reviews and I find lots of new books along the way :D

Is anyone out there that is reading this on Goodreads too?

Song - All I want by Kodaline

Hi!

I was wondering if anybody has heard of this wonderful song? I heard it the first time as background music to a 2012 year overview. I bought it the very next day. The song and video is just lovely and a little sad. Just wanted to share :)

Short Story: To be a Star

A/N I was in a strange mood lol

To be a Star
When someone says "I want to be a star", you would think they mean fame, and fortune.
I knew a boy who said that to me once. And I assumed that, that was what he meant.
I was wrong.
It was a cold winters day and we were taking a walk throughout the forest. As we walked he took my hand in his and gently lead me into the clearing a few meters ahead. We sat down in the grass and snow, and still he held my hand.
Sitting in silence for a long time we just enjoyed each others company and the peace and quiet surrounding us.
After a while he turned to me, smiled and said "Do you remember when I said to you I want to be a star?"
"Yes", I replied wondering where he was going with this.
He took a deep breath and continued "I want to shine the brightest in the sky, so you'll know its me. I want to be able to watch over you forever." I sat quietly all the while wondering why he was saying this.   He must have seen my confusion so he explained.
He had cancer and had only a few months left to live. He hadn't told me any sooner because he just wanted to live as normally as possible.  I wrapped my arms around him and held on tightly.
We both wept in sadness and anger for future that wouldn't be ours and then we also wept in happiness for the time that we had been given to live, love and enjoy each other. We lived and loved in those few months that many people only dream about.
His time came in a hospital bed 8 months later. I loved him so much and didn't want to let him go, unfortunately it was not up to me to decide.
It was a Friday in the late afternoon when he turned to me, smiled and said "It is time for me to go my love, look for me in the night sky, I'll be the star burning the brightest. I'll always be watching you and I love you so very much, never forget that". He gave me such a beautiful smile.
I leaned down and gave him one last kiss, filled with as much love as I could. As I straightened, he drew his last breath and left this world.
That night as I walked the path to our cottage near the cliff edge, I looked up at the sky.  I started to laugh and weep. Then with tears running down my face I whispered, " You got what you wanted my love," for there above me was a star that had never been there before.
It was the brightest of them all and as it twinkled at me, I just knew it was him.

Short Story: Spring brings new life everywhere

A/n Here is the first short story that I promised :) This little one popped up when I looked outside at a pregnant friend in, you guessed it, Spring. Hope to hear what you think of it - TheDreamer

Spring brings new life everywhere
April sat on a park bench, her eyes closed and a smile on her face that made her lips gently curve.
As she opened her eyes she inhaled deeply and could smell spring in the air.
She could smell the grass that had just been cut, the slightly rotting foliage underneath the trees and the fragrant flowers that were scattered throughout the park.
She looked around and could see the signs of spring everywhere.
There was the sun that shone brightly and warmed her skin gently. The slightly cool breeze in the warm air. Then there were the flowers that were blooming and full of colour filling the air with their sweet scent and the bees buzzing in between them. Birds were chirping and people, parents, grandparents and children were all either running around laughing and playing or settling down for a picnic.
April loved spring because of all these things and the new life it brought.   The ducks in the pond with their ducklings following them. The chicks in the nest chirping as their parents flew back to feed them and the new sprouts of flowers and trees that had yet to grow.
But most of all she loved the new life that this spring  was going to give her and her husband. She put a hand on her rounded belly and felt her unborn son gently kick against it. She turned and smiled at her husband while lacing the fingers of her other hand through his.
As he pulled her close and enfolded her in his arms, she let out a happy little sigh and settled against him thinking, 'spring brings new life everywhere'.

Book Recommendation - Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Good afternoon :)

I have a book recommendation for you. I stumbled across, bought this book and finally read it on holiday 2 weeks ago.

What I expected: A haunted story full of danger and horror.

What I got: A fantasy/adventure/humour/romance story.

Rating: ****

About

The story follows Jacob Portman on the adventure of his life.

When he was little his grandfather used to regal him with stories of his childhood on a island. These included monsters and orphaned children with peculiar abilities, he would even show Jacob pictures of the orphans. As Jacob got older he lost belief in these stories and his grandfather stopped sharing them.

However one evening he gets a frantic call from his grandfather, telling him that the monsters have found him and that he needs to protect himself. Jacob rushes to his grandfathers house only to find it empty and looking as though a mountain cat has slashed through the door.

He finds his grandfather dying in the woods out back from wounds that look as though he has been mauled.

His grandfathers last cryptic words and a letter from a Miss Peregrine urge Jacob to find out if any of it was true. Determined, he sets out to find the island that his grandfather grew up on and find the answers to the many questions that he has.

This book is gripping and exciting. It had me reading throughout the night and day.  The book also contains photos of children, the photos that Jacobs grandfather showed him! what is amazing is that these photos have been carefully selected and collected over the years from garage sales and the such by people dedicated to this book. The only thing that I would have liked was if the the other characters (the other children) had a bit more of a role in the story and more background information. Some people might have a bit of trouble with the relationship between Jacob and Emma because of the age difference but it didn't really bother me because in my eyes the romance is barely there. In my opinion this is one awesome read full of adventure, intrigue, humor and the teeniest, tiniest bit of romance.

This book is gripping and exciting. It will have you reading throughout the night and/or day, which is what I ended up doing lol. Give it a go and if you have already read it, leave a comment on your opinion :)

Short Story: Fear - A Nightmare

A/n Here is the first story I ever wrote. It is actually based on a nightmare of mine hence the title :) I just had to get it out and since typing it out I haven't had this nightmare again. It helps to get things out of your head.....Now on with the story and let me know what you think - TheDreamer

Fear - A Nightmare

Fear, it is the emotion that gives us the ability to do things we usually wouldn't do or wouldn't be able to do.

For example it gives the weakest human the ability to lift a car. The gentlest human the ability to fight and defend itself violently and without a second thought. It also gives a human the ability to run the fastest it's ever run.

That's what I'm doing now, running for my life. Don't ask from whom, because I don't know. All I know is that IT is pure evil and if I let IT catch me my life is over.

I'm in the forest and I don't really know how I got here but I barely spare a thought for this fact.

Branches rip and tear at my skin, my clothes and my hair as I run and stumble through the foliage. The afternoon air is so cold it makes my lungs burn and my breath comes out in little white puffs.

Thump thump thump.

IT's gaining on me, I think fearfully so I pick up my pace, pushing my legs to carry my body even faster.

Up ahead I can see that the trees are thinning and give a sob of relief.

Somebody will surely be there to help me, save me, protect me from the evil that's chasing me. I take a look behind me and see IT moving faster and faster. I can hear IT breathing. ITs feet pounding the dirt as it runs. I can not however see ITs face.

I wish I knew why IT felt the need to chase me and catch me just to destroy me.

Through all this I am still running and when I look in front of me again I skid to an abrupt stop.

A cliff. A cliff is beyond that thinning of trees, not help, not protection and not a savior. Tears cascade down my cheeks as I look out over the wild ocean.

The water smashes against the rocks below me. The wind whips my hair around my face and tugs viciously at my clothes. Stormy clouds cover the sky and the sun. There is no warmth only the harshness of nature that seems to be in sync with the emotions rolling through me. Fear, anger and hopelessness.

I sigh as I realize I have a decision to make. Either way it will end with my death. How it ends however is my choice. ITs terms or Mine.

I can stay and wait for IT to reach me and finally see ITs identity. And if IT gives me time perhaps ask why.

Or

I can take a leap of this cliff into the churning water below and end this fear, this chase, the run for my life. My own terms not ITs. This choice would be my victory over the evil.

I look behind me again and see IT getting closer. I can hear the chilling laugh of triumph. IT thinks it has me, I think not.

I make my decision. I jump.

The last thing I hear is ITs scream of rage. I feel satisfaction.

The last thing I think is that I'm finally at peace.  No more fear, no more anger, no more hopelessness.

The last thing I feel is falling.

I once heard the last thing an angel feels is falling. Perhaps I'm an angel....
